Half-hearted efforts will not solve Kashmir issue: Mehbooba Mufti

Now, there is an attempt to replace the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir so that they blame it on the Governor, and perhaps, it is a precursor to bring a governor whom the BJP trusts politically, or a political person, so that they could perhaps bring president’s rule in the state, ‘ the former Maharashtra chief minister told ANI.

In a stern message to those instigating the Kashmir youth to violence, Prime Minister Narendra MNodi today said they would be one day held accountable for ruining the lives of innocents. Seeking to strike a chord with the people of Kashmir, he said if any life is lost in the valley, whether of any youth or any securityman, “that loss is ours, of our own, of our own country”.

August 29: Alleging that Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is completely clueless and Prime Minister Narendra Modi appears helpless with regard to the situation in the Kashmir Valley, former All-India Congress Committee (AICC) J-K in charge Prithviraj Chavan on Monday claimed that there is now an attempt to replace Governor N.N. Vohra, and this perhaps could be a precursor to either bringing in a governor whom the BJP trusts politically, or perhaps impose president’s rule in the state.

“We have to ensure that a credible mechanism for dialogue, reconciliation and resolution is put in place and it should not be like the half-hearted efforts made in similar situations after 2008 and 2010 unrests”, she said and called for creating a conducive atmosphere for dialogue.

The official further stated that the refugees from West Pakistan, mostly from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, have settled in different areas of Jammu, Kathua and Rajouri districts but they are not permanent residents of the state in terms of Jammu and Kashmir Constitution.

The MHA’s Kashmir division has, meanwhile, now been directed to expedite the release of funds that were earlier announced by the PM.

Also present on the occasion were Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat, Minister for Forest, Ecology & Environment, Choudhary Lal Singh, Minister for Finance, Culture, Labor & Employment, Dr Haseeb A Drabu and Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali. She appreciated the people of Jammu region for maintaining peace and harmony “despite repeated provocations by various disruptive elements”. “The chief minister is shuttling between Srinagar and Delhi”.

Mehbooba said the Chief Secretary has been personally monitoring the progress of these cases while as the Principal Secretary to CM and the concerned departments are working on war-footing to finalize the cases of compassionate appointment. To keep it united, it is the responsibility of all of us, as individual citizens, as a society and as a government, to strengthen the unity as much as we can, highlight it as much as we can.
