Hall of Famer Yogi Berra passes away at age 90

“While we mourn the loss of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, we know he is at peace with mom”, Berra’s family said in a statement released by the Yogi Berra Museum, which opened in 1998. He was very athletic and he had great baseball sense. He detailed his appreciation for the team in a 2003 opinion column for The New York Times, which definitely is worth a read for hockey and baseball fans alike.

“I thought he was pretty dense”, Bordman said.

According to baseball-reference.com, Kaline had a 8.2 WAR, compared with 4.5 for Berra. Major League Baseball is undoubtedly a less entertaining place without Yogi Berra. “He always wanted me and my wife to sit with Carmen and him when we got there up in Cooperstown to have dinner the first night”.

“And it’s less filling than it would’ve been if it was more filling than they didn’t want it to be”, Berra said in a Miller Lite commercial. He cried for about 30-40 seconds – I never saw him cry – and then he got control of himself and said ‘these kids, I know these kids, these kids are me.

Berra was considered one of the best catchers in the history of the game.

When you come to a fork in the road, take it.

Those just happen to be the years the Baby Boom generation came into being.

All of those accomplishments, however, might be overshadowed by Berra’s vivacious personality off the field. The team won 14 pennants and also bagged ten world championships during Yogi Berra’s playing days at the Yankees.

The all-time great catcher spent four years as the Mets’ manager.

He was sacked once again, in 1985, after just 22 games.

More impressive perhaps than his regular season performance, is Berra’s history in the postseason and October.

In honor of Berra’s birthday, May 12, 1925, both New York State and New Jersey officially proclaimed May 12, 2015 as Yogi Berra Day.
