Broadway musical phenomenon “Hamilton” broke another record when the Tony Award nominations were announced today, picking up 16 nominations in 13 categories at theater’s equivalent of the Oscars. “What I’m really thrilled about is that the nominators spread the wealth among our incredible troupe of actors and our awesome design team”.

The nominees for Best Play are “The Humans”, “Eclipsed”, “The Father” and “King Charles III”.
“Hamilton has become a phenomenon, a smash-hit, taken Broadway by storm, captivating the entire country, winning tons of awards, turned musical haters into die-hard fans”, Mr Obama said in March.

Those 10 include two for Wolfe – best writer and best director – in this endeavor which included Savion Glover as choreographer along with stars Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Billy Porter. The only other instance she wasn’t nominated was for “Henry IV” 13 years ago.
Among the Tony nominees for best actress in a musical are LauraBenanti (“She loves Me”), Carmen Cusack (“Bright Star”), CynthiaErivo (“The Color Purple), Jessie Mueller (“Waitress”), andPhillipa Soo (“Hamilton”)”. I also think its incandescent star, Cynthia Erivo will deservedly walk away with the Tony for best actress in a musical.
Danny Burstein, nominated for playing Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, is the musical actor with the most to lose-this is his sixth nomination, and he has yet to win.
On the other hand, “Blackbird” was a bit of a surprise on the positive side.
Among the five in the running for best actor in a play are Irish actor Gabriel Byrne, former Tony victor Frank Langella for “The Father” and Jeff Daniels in “Blackbird”.

The Broadway musical Hamilton has racked up a Grammy, a Pulitzer Prize and a boatload of celebrity endorsements since opening last summer. But if “Hamilton” won in those categories, it would tie “The Producers”.
