He arrived in Sao Paulo a day late, acknowledging he was delayed following a late-night auto crash in Monaco where he ran into a stationary vehicle.

Hamilton initially was barred from discussing it, only to then tell British newspaper journalists that it was the “result of heavy partying and not much rest for 10 days”.

Although he admitted to being run down and confessed to having put on a little extra weight, he added: “I don’t feel like the intensity has changed”.

He added: “I am excited to be here because this is a race that Ayrton struggled at for a few time until he finally got his win and this is a race I have not won out of all the tries that I had”.

But it was Hamilton, who has also been struggling with a fever this week, who set the pace with a 1m13.543s on Pirelli’s medium-compound rubber. But I am feeling better and am now boarding the plane to Brazil. I slept on the flight here, too. “I usually sleep four or five hours but when you are training you need more than that”. The party turned out great but by the end of it I was exhausted.

Interlagos hosts the penultimate round of the season.

According to a report, Hamilton was supposed to miss this weekend’s race, as he was suffering from fever and met with an accident.

The German was left fuming after Hamilton railroaded him into a late error in the US Grand Prix three weeks ago and roared by to grab his third world crown. I have never, ever not considered coming to a race throughout my whole life.

“They have made a huge, huge step and I anticipate next year they will be even better, so we have got to continue and it’s harder when you are at the top to keep that gap”.

Hamilton chose to break the news of his auto crash via his social media account on Thursday, but the specifics of the event remain unclear.

The 30-year-old Briton said he wanted to take responsibility for the incident to prevent people from making a “quick buck” out of it. It’s unclear what happened to the one-of-a-kind supercar, but according to Lewis Hamilton’s Instagram, “Nobody was hurt, which is the most important thing”.
