Hamilton wins US Grand Prix and his third World Drivers’ Championship crown

“It’s just insane to think that I’m a three-time Formula One world champion”.

Sebastian Vettel fought his way back from 13th to finish third in one of the best races in recent memory but it was not enough to prevent Hamilton from amounting an unassailable lead in the championship with three races to spare. Hamilton overtook Rosberg with eight laps to go when Rosberg locked his brakes in a turn.

The 30-year-old roared into history with a remarkable victory in Sunday’s US Grand Prix to become the first British driver to win back-to-back titles. Three matches his idol Ayrton Senna and ties Jackie Stewart for most titles by a British driver.

Asked to explain the moment where he lost the race and gift-wrapped the championship to Hamilton, he said: “I just got wheelspin”.

“I owe it all to my dad, to my family who supported me all these years and sacrificed so much for me to be here”.

“I hope that if there is any inspiring from today it’s just that: never give up on your dreams, on your hopes and on your desires”.

“I know it sounds insane, but there wasn’t one point during the race where I didn’t believe I could do it. There wasn’t a second of doubt”. Tiger has done so much for the sport, there is so much more people involved – even myself I am getting into golf now.

Hamilton had spoken before Sunday of how it would feel to join Senna in the all-time standings, likening it to climbing Everest and having no higher peak to climb, but he made clear he had recalibrated his ambitions.

Hamilton pressured team-mate Nico Rosberg into a mistake during a frantic last 10 laps after a safety vehicle and swept by to take his 10th win of 2015. With limited grip in the slippery conditions, Hamilton understeered into his team-mate, pushing Rosberg wide after a small amount of contact and taking the lead.

“The motivation part is really easy, it’s kind of like I was born with it so it never goes away”. As The Sun reports, Rosberg is a huge Bayern Munich fan and saw them beaten 2-0 by Hamilton’s beloved Arsenal, according to Sky Sports, in the Champions League last week.
