Hammers to talk to Valencia over injury confusion

West Ham’s Ecuador worldwide Enner Valencia apologised on Wednesday for comments criticising the club’s medical staff over the injury that has kept him out of the first three Premier League games of the season.

The east London club would like him to have an operation but so far the striker has declined and wants the problem to heal naturally.

Valencia visited a consultant to undergo a scan on the injury in early August before West Ham’s head of medical and sports science, Stijn Vandenbroucke, revealed there was a “very small chance” the 25-year-old would need surgery.

“West Ham seem to have forgotten that I’m injured”, Valencia told Ecuadorian radio station La Deportiva.

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic, meanwhile, will announce on Thursday whether Diafra Sakho is being made available for selection for this weekend’s trip to Liverpool.

“I have been injured for a month and I still don’t know what the name of my injury is”.

“The quotes have led to confusion surrounding the injury and now the Hammers are expected to contact Valencia and arrange talks to try and clear up the issue once and for all”.

“It is not possible to put an exact date on when I might be back on the pitch, but you can be rest assured that I am motivated to get fit and score more goals for West Ham United as soon as I can”.

With Valencia out for some time yet, a permanent departure from the club is nearly inconceivable, but his displeasure suggests that all is not well between player and club here – and this could be a fascinating situation to monitor. “I have been thinking about going to an airport and getting out of London”.
