LG today introduced its 4K OLED smart TV in India. This is what makes OLED technology an ideal match for HDR content because only OLED panels can deliver the absolute black which makes the bright colors of HDR look even more impressive.

Incorporating insight from LG’s dedicated R&D team, these new OLED displays are 85% slimmer, 20% narrower, and 26% lighter than competing LCD TVs.

The curved TVs from LG are based on the company’s proprietary WRGB technology which is said comes with 33 million color sub-pixels and self-lighting pixels. There will also be a second curved OLED model without HDR: 55EG9100. Pricing and features for the new line are nearly identical to the curved EF9600 series – the 55-inch model will run $5,500 while the 65-inch model will go for $7,000 – but there is one notable exception: The EF9500 series will be the only LG OLED able to take full advantage of HDR-infused content from Ultra HD Blu-ray discs and players, expected later this year. This results in better colours and contrast ratio and deeper blacks. The Web OS teams up with LG’s intuitive Magic Motion remote control. Both the TV will be available from today at select LG Brand stores.
