Hanjin Shipping Gets $44.6M From Former, Current Chiefs
Hanjin Shipping spokeswoman Min Park said the chairman of Hanjin Shipping, Cho Yang-ho, sent 40 billion won ($35.7 million) from his personal assets on Tuesday.

Hanjin also won relief on Saturday from its biggest shareholder, Korean Air Lines, which agreed to provide 60-billion won ($54m) in funds to help pay for goods to be unloaded from its container ships.
After roiling the global supply chain for more than a week since the company applied for court receivership on August 31, Hanjin Shipping won some respite over the weekend after its biggest shareholder, Korean Air Lines Co., agreed to inject $54 million to help pay for handling charges at ports.
Around US$14 billion (RM57.6 billion) of cargo has been tied up globally as ports, tugboat operators and cargo handling firms anxious about being paid refused to work for Hanjin, which filed for receivership in a Seoul court early this month.
Klaus Rud Sejling, head of Maersk Line’s east-west network, said in an interview with Bloomberg News on Sunday that the freight rate is rising and new clients are flowing into Maersk, indicating that there is “no doubt” that the rate market is reacting to the crisis caused by Hanjin Shipping.
The deal requires the approval of other shareholders and creditors of the terminal.
Hanjin, South Korea’s biggest container company with 97 ships, recently filed for bankruptcy protection in Seoul, leaving some vessels effectively marooned at sea as ports turned them away.
Also, the local business community is voicing concerns that it is inappropriate for Korean Air Lines to be put under pressure to shoulder additional financial burden to rescue a court-managed company.
South Korea has said no government or central bank money will be directly injected into firms restructuring in the ailing shipping and shipbuilding industries, though it is helping small-to-medium sized businesses hit by the restructuring.
Three more Hanjin container ships are waiting at the port to clear their freight once Hanjin Greece, which was offloading Monday, is finished, Hanjin said in response to a query.

Some 93 vessels, or two-thirds of Hanjin Shipping’s fleet, are not operating properly, including vessels seized, barred entry to ports or terminals, denied services or moving slowly, according to Hanjin Shipping data on Monday.
