Boston Red Sox’s Eduardo Rodriguez kicks the mound after giving up a solo home run to New York Yankees’ Austin Romine, left, during the third inning of a baseball game in Boston, Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016.

A-Rod’s career with the YankeesRodriguez had asked to return to his old position for the last game.

Jackie Bradley Jr. has a sore big toe on his right foot due to a recent foul ball and it has been hindering Bradley’s ability to play center field, Farrell said.

On ESPN Radio’s The Michael Kay Show Thursday, Rodriguez said that Jeter reached out to congratulate him on walking away from the game after 22 years, but hasn’t yet had the chance to hit him back. And No. 3, ‘If we win.’ And I said, ‘I have a good feeling about that.’ Every at-bat he kept yelling at me encouraging messages.

“I’ve been preaching it, we’re fighting”, Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. Instead, Rodriguez will be the designated hitter in his final game before being released and transitioning into a role as special adviser and instructor.

Now the Twins have a logjam of corner position players and at designated hitter but Rodriguez’s presence could also help ticket sales on top of the leadership he could provde to younger players.

The Yankees sent out Luis Cessa to pitch his second inning of work and retired the Red Sox 1-2-3 in the bottom of the eighth. A-Rod opted out of the contract after the 2007 season, became a free agent and signed the $275 million deal with the Yankees. “It’s just one of those things”.

“My pitch count got up there a little bit, made a couple of mistakes, and against this lineup you’re going to pay for it”, Corbin said.

On the play, Sanchez and Hicks scored to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead. Not much you can do about it.

– Benintendi saw his hitting streak end at three games, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout. “I tried to put my glove up where I thought it was going to be”. But A-Rod is hitting just.199 with nine home runs this year.

David Ortiz roped a ground-rule double and rumbled home on Ramirez’s ensuing RBI single in the first inning. In five outings since finally getting a shot in the big league rotation, the 23-year-old is 3-2 with a 3.00 ERA, including quality starts in his past two games despite limited pitch counts.

Ramirez was shaken up after colliding with Gary Sanchez at first base during Sanchez’s eighth-inning single. He hit two fly balls caught by the second baseman, and one groundball fielded by the catcher. His line drive to left was enough to tie the game, but when Benintendi lost it in the lights, it sailed over his glove, allowing the go-ahead run to score as well.

Rodriguez said the Boston fans treated him exactly as he expected them to.

Indians designated hitter Carlos Santana left with a contusion on the right side of his head after being struck by a foul ball while standing in the dugout during the fifth inning.

Ortiz noted that “hitting extra bases is not easy”, and Red Sox manager John Farrell echoed the sentiment.

Chris Tillman (15-4) allowed two runs over seven innings for his first victory since July 21.
