Boston Red Sox’s Hanley Ramirez tosses his bat while rounding first after his two run, home run off San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Matt Cain during second inning of a baseball game at Fenway Park, Wednesday, July 20, 20… Not to be outdone, Boston’s Hanley Ramirez hit three against the San Francisco Giants, including one that easily cleared the Green Monster and was measured at 468 feet. Ramirez postured toward the mound before he skulked to first base as plate umpire Stu Scheuerwater warned both dugouts.

Ramirez’s first career three-homer game gave him 11 for the season.

Travis Shaw and Sandy Leon also homered in the win. 500 with its sixth consecutive win at Fenway. In his five seasons prior to 2016 with the A’s and Rockies, Pomeranz had never won more than five games and only made 20 starts in a season once, in 2012 when he went 2-9 with a 4.93 ERA. The Twins are 2-5 in the last 7 meetings in Boston. After another bloop hit, Pomeranz served up an absolute blast to Trevor Brown off one of the signs over the Monster. The Angels have won six in a row to move out of the basement in the AL West. Meanwhile, the Rangers lead is down to three and a-half games over Houston.

The Giants were familiar with Pomeranz, having seen him three starts earlier this season. It was nearly two months since the last time a member of the Red Sox went deep three times.

Chris Johnson hit a solo homer in the fifth for the Marlins. Pomeranz was 8-7 with a 2.47 ERA with the Padres.

Even better, Pomeranz was getting the kind of support he seldom got in San Diego with eight runs scored. Naquin had his first multi-homer game.

Ben Revere, Jayson Werth and Anthony Rendon also hit home runs and Trea Turner had an RBI triple and stole home for Washington, which snapped a six-game losing streak to Los Angeles dating to last season.

The AL East-leading Orioles have lost three in a row.

In St. Louis, Jedd Gyorko homered for the fifth straight game off San Diego pitching, connecting twice and driving in all three RBIs to give the Cardinals a doubleheader sweep.

Gyorko, dealt by the Padres in the offseason for outfielder Jon Jay, is 13 for 21 (.619) against his old team with six homers and 10 RBIs.

Minnesota’s Joe Mauer and Detroit’s Ian Kinsler homered in the first inning, and that was all the scoring until the ninth. Two innings later with a runner on, he sent a fastball into the right-field bleachers. Ramirez went 3 for 4 tonight with three home runs.

The Minnesota Twins look for consistency after splitting their last six games.

Norris (5-8) gave up six runs on seven hits in five-plus innings before giving way to the bullpen.

Seattle pulled within 5-4 on Mike Zunino’s two-run homer in seventh. Cincinnati isn’t much better at 36-59. Barnes got Conor Gillaspie to pop-up, and that was all she wrote for the frame that seemed certain to derail the Sox.

Evan Longoria kept up his hot hitting with two doubles to help the Rays take two of three to capture their first road series since June 6-8 at Arizona.

Josh Donaldson and Edwin Encarnacion each hit two-run homers and the Toronto Blue Jays routed the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-4. Donaldson’s homer off Patrick Corbin landed in the Chase Field swimming pool in the first inning.

In Oakland, Doug Fister pitched seven innings and Jose Altuve continued his torrid hitting for Houston. Dustin Pedroia is 2-for-3 with a double. He sent Mac Williamson flipping over the bullpen wall in an orange pullover on his first homer in the second inning. The Mariners tied it on Adam Lind’s solo shot in the eighth.

Texas Rangers slugger Prince Fielder is facing the prospect of season-ending neck surgery after an MRI revealed a herniated disk just above an area that was repaired two years ago.

Koji Uehara, who took over the closer’s role for Boston when Craig Kimbrel was injured, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Red Sox with a right pectoral strain. Right-hander Noe Ramirez was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.
