Former Roberson standout Chris Narveson will be the starting pitcher for the Miami Marlins on Wednesday when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Starling Marte was first, drilled in the back by Brian Ellington on the first pitch of the seventh. Morton struggled throughout the game, only lasting 5 1/3 innings while allowing five runs on eight hits. “It’s just harder to hit when that ball’s coming from a higher release point”. We like the fact there wasn’t huge splits (vs. lefties or righties) and his ability to play first base.

Aside from Polanco, the Pirates got six scoreless innings from left-hander J.A. Happ, a two-run double by center fielder Andrew McCutchen and Mark Melancon’s 40th save of the season.

Strasburg (8-6) gave up only two hits and struck out seven with one walk.

“The curveball-slider combination played for him extremely well tonight”, Hurdle said. The changeup – he created separation in terms of velocity. He lost his sixth start in a row, and against the Pirates he fell to 0-4 in four career starts.

Gordon went 2-for-4 on the night with four steals and two runs in the Marlins 5-2 victory over the Pirates.

Later, in the bottom of the sixth inning, after Gordon stole second base, Martin Prado doubled to left field, scoring Gordon and giving the Marlins a two-run lead.

The hit was payback for McCutchen. In the third, Koehler went off-speed again, but McCutchen was waiting this time.

Marte advanced to third on the out, and Walker’s sacrifice fly increased the Pirates’ lead to 3-0.

Shortstop Erick Aybar contributed three hits, two runs scored and an RBI for Los Angeles (64-61).

The Marlins’ scoreless streak reached 21 consecutive innings before they scored in the seventh against Jared Hughes on J.T. Realmuto’s RBI groundout.

In the eighth, Cordier was ejected just two pitches into his appearance. Aramis Ramirez then singled on a 2-0 fastball.

“The umpires handled it accordingly, and we’ll move on”.

Lest the evening end too quietly, Cervelli ducked out of the way full-count heater from former Pirate Bryan Morris with two outs in the ninth.

After the game, the Marlins were miffed at the Cordier ejection.

“You’ve got to do what you can and scratch by”, Gordon said. Look at my minor league stats – it happens from time to time.

In talking to people in the clubhouse, the perception seemed to be less malicious intent and more just a bad night from a bullpen with some young, hard throwers. “The guy’s got a good arm”. “I’m not sure why (the umpire) pulled the trigger like that”.

“He was the catalyst”, manager Dan Jennings said.

“Feeling good in my delivery”, Happ said.

“We like his bat”. The Marlins walked nine, five by relievers.
