Happ pitches Blue Jays past Yankees, Sabathia in 3-1 win
Toronto starter J.A. Happ held the Yankees to one run and three hits in seven innings and NY wasted a strong outing by CC Sabathia in a 3-1 loss Thursday at Yankee Stadium. 859 OPS in 62 games as a rookie last season. 230 and averaged only 3.5 runs over their previous 16 games.

The New York Yankees are the hottest team in the American League East but are still in 4th place.
The win ended a three-game losing streak by Colorado and it ended a four-game winning streak for the Red Sox. Fortunately, for the Blue Jays, Roberto Osuna came in and quickly collected two outs to extinguish any hope of a rally, and sent the Blue Jays home winners, 8-4.
Martin hit two home runs, also the first two of the season for the Toronto native.
Happ got the win and improved to 6-2, Sabathia was the hard-luck loser and dropped to 3-3; because both of the runs Sabathia gave up were unearned, his ERA dropped down to 2.83. Johnson made it 5-0 with his second homer an inning later, Johnson’s first hit in 22 interleague at bats. “He really knows how to pitch”.
Pinch-hitter Austin Romine homered on the first pitch from Blue Jays reliever Chad Girodo in the ninth.
Romine hit a pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the ninth, his first of the season. The hit was Goins’ first in his last fifteen at-bats, and helped to double his RBI production for the month of May. “You know, normally I’d rather get it in April than late May, but hopefully it’s a sign that there’s more to come”, he said.
Martin added to the advantage in the sixth with a solo home run over the State Farm sign in left.
Martin began the night batting.
“I just did my best to fight and put it in play, and thankfully it found a hole”, Travis said. “I definitely have some power, so I’m bound to run into a couple”.
With Mark Teixeira sitting out because of neck spasms, the Yankees’ six-game winning streak came to an end Wednesday night with an 8-4 loss to the Blue Jays at the Stadium. “CC gave us all the chances to win this one and we just couldn’t win it”.
Cole hit a 409-foot, three-run homer in the third inning to left-center field.
In the eighth inning – again with two outs – Encarnacion followed back-to-back walks to Jose Bautista and Josh Donaldson, with a single to cash in a single run. The only other players to do it in the same game were Justin Morneau and Corey Koskie, five times for Minnesota.
“This just got too much”, he said. Dustin Ackley started in place of Teixeira, who had an MRI.
“It went away”, Girardi said of the injury. The Yankees placed LHP Chasen Shreve on the 15-day DL with a sprained shoulder joint. “We’ll have to see, obviously.”… DH Alex Rodriguez is expected to rejoin the lineup Thursday. The 40-year-old slugger had been on the DL since May 4 with a strained right hamstring.
Blue Jays: SS Troy Tulowitzki sat out with a sore right quadriceps that caused him to exit Tuesday night’s game in the seventh inning. He said it’s nothing to worry about and he plans to play Thursday.
