Happy 225th to the United States Coast Guard!

The Coast Guard’s latest 418-foot National Security Cutter James (WSML 754) arrived at Base Boston today in the North End.

“The mission of the Coast Guard is maritime safety, maritime stewardship, and maritime security”, Seaman Kingsley said.

With the passing of this bill, Hamilton was given the authority to build 10 cutters to protect the Nation’s lifeblood, our revenue. Tracing its history to August 4, 1790, the Coast Guard now operates throughout US internal waterways, the coasts, and even distant global waters.

In other events around the country, the Coast Guard Foundation is presenting $5,000 to Coast Guard units in Connecticut, in conjunction with the organization’s participation in Connecticut’s Coast Guard Summer.

The U.S. Revenue Cutter Service would eventually join forces with the Lifesaving Service to form the United States Coast Guard.

The new Forever stamp features two icons of the Coast Guard: the barque Eagle, a three-masted sailing ship known as “America’s Tall Ship”, and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, the standard rescue aircraft of the Coast Guard. “Transnational criminal organizations use drug profits to destabilize governments in our hemisphere. We are evolving to meet these challenges and invest in a 21st century Coast Guard that will continue our service to nation that is 225 years strong”. Watch the below video to find out!
