Happy Eid Al Fitr 2016

Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid al-Fitr by paying Zakat al-Fitr and saying the Eid prayer in a congregation. Many Americans have shared in the experience of Ramadan by volunteering in community service efforts to assist those in need and even fasting a few days with their fellow Muslim American co-workers.

When the Prophet firstly arrived in Madinah, he found people celebrating two specific days in which they used to entertain themselves with the recreation and merriment. Eid’l Fitr marks the end of their month-long fasting and the start of a joyous occasion for believers.

“So I think that it’s fantastic that it’s also being replicated here in Australia where we all come together so whether it’s Eid or Christmas or Diwali or any of the other festivals, we share in it together and we respect each other, and are happy for those around us to celebrate their handsome days together”. On Eid, Muslims will gather together at the mosque for a prayer.

Issuing a message to mark the Eid al-Fitr, President Maithripala Sirisena extended his best wishes to all followers of the Islamic faith as they celebrate the Id-Ul Fithar at the conclusion of the Ramadan fast.

As New Zealand’s diversity increases, it is important we recognise and acknowledge the many cultures and religions within New Zealand.

After prayer and a sermon, members of Canberra’s small Ahmadiyya Muslim community embraced each other three times before tucking into sweet treats and spending the rest of the day with their families or doing charity work.

The Eid festival will be celebrated at the Islamic College of Melbourne at Tarneit on July 9, from 10am until 4pm.

In Karachi, Pakistan, the festival was observed under tight security, with police as well as soldiers deployed around special Eid prayer grounds.
