As a pastor, Mother’s Day is always bittersweet for me.

This is for the ones who cringe as those Mother’s Day banners go up and the commercials start even before Easter … reminding people to get a necklace or flowers to show their mom they love her on the second Sunday in May.
OK, our fathers had something to do with us being here as well. Now that my real kids are grown I call my dogs by their full names when they do something I don’t like.

If that weren’t enough, she battled the throws of dirty diapers and spit up. But that’s OK; it’s simply part of life.

A mother is one such person in our lives, who we can always look up to when in blue. Not that I deserved it, of course. She is simultaneously our biggest fan and our harshest critic.
