Rejoice, James Harden is here to stay.

According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical on Saturday, All-Star shooting guard James Harden has agreed to a four-year, $118 million contract renegotiation with the Rockets that could keep him under team control through 2020.

While the new contract only lengthens Harden’s stay by 1 extra season, as the past year is a player option, the deal is still a massive win for the front office. Harden could have opted out of his contract at the end of next season, but now with the new deal, he will be guaranteed to be in Houston at least three more seasons.

The Houston Rockets remade their roster this summer, adding free agents like Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon who should help them keep up in the Western Conference race.

“We’ve got to figure it out”, Harden said during the press conference to announce his deal. I’m not sure if Harden is worth that much, but I do know he’s the best thing the Rockets can get to build around.

Now that Harden is locked up, for many-many years, he is looking forward to just basketball, no more distractions. But Harden, both now and in the years to come, will still be at the center of it all. If a possible James Harden exit was in the horizon, a possible Morey exit wouldn’t be far behind, so it is nice to see the front office pull off something that clarify James Harden’s commitment.
