Taylor, who had been with the firm for 15-years, left in June.

“We are delighted to welcome Chris”. He has a highly relevant financial services background and will bring new skills and expertise to the board.

Now, the Sunday Times has reported that, in October, the government will back an even more ambitious “glass ceiling” proposal in a report from Lord Davies of Abersoch, the former Standard Chartered chairman, for 25 per cent of top-earning positions at FTSE 100 companies to be occupied by women within five years.

“The board would be negligent in its obligations if it didn’t look further afield and make sure it has run a true and fair selection process”, Howkins said, while telling reporters Hetherington is a strong candidate to take over. IG Group has denied the allegations.

Chris Hill said “I have always admired the Hargreaves Lansdown business and I am looking forward to this opportunity to contribute to its continued future success”. He will join from IG Group PLC, where he is now and has been CFO for the last 4 years. “In the meantime, Chris will continue in his current role to ensure we have an orderly handover of responsibilities”.

At the end of last month, IG’s yearly results revealed a 0.9% decrease in profit before tax to £193.2m, while reported profit before tax was down 13%.
