It was just the 13th time in National Football League history that a team has won the overtime coin toss and elected to kick. Their other score came courtesy of a strip-sack of Fitzpatrick and 14-yard return of the fumble by linebacker Jamie Collins.

Van Gaal defiant on Man Utd future: I will not resign
Louis van Gaal has insisted he will not resign from Manchester United and is determined to see out his contract with the club. Rooney volleyed over the bar late on as United had to settle for another 0-0, ending a three-game losing run in the league.

Others pointed to the Trotters’ diplomatic and cultural impact overseas. Having joined the Globetrotters in 1954 after serving two years in the Army, he earned the moniker “Clown Prince”.

Lemon enraptured audiences with half-court hook shots, constant on-court chatter, stunts like handing out hot pretzels to Madison Square Garden referees (mid-game no less), and most of all his ball-handling skills and wizard-like passing. In 1958 he succeeded Goose Tatum as the team’s main clown, a position he held for 20 years.

Lemon left the Globetrotters in 1978 over a contract dispute and subsequently formed his own traveling teams, including Meadowlark Lemon’s Bucketeers and Meadowlark Lemon’s Harlem All-Stars. “As a cartoon, when paired with Scooby Doo and solving crimes, he was transcendent”.

Lemon spent the last years of his life trying to spread a message of faith and became an ordained minister in 1986, according to his website.

Details of his birth, hometown and given name are conflicting and multiple, but many believe he was born in Wilmington, N.C. on April 25, 1932.

Many of Lemon’s fans and those who saw him play during his career took to Twitter to express their condolences, including actor Rob Lowe and Mike Greenberg, co-host of the ESPN radio show “Mike & Mike”. For my basketball, I had a Carnation milk can.

In that speech, he noted how he first learned of the Globetrotters when he was 11 and watched a news reel in a theater in North Carolina. And they (Globetrotters) seemed to make that ball talk.
