One person has died and another four have been injured, two critically, after a lifeboat detached from the world’s biggest cruise liner.

All five people were riding in the lifeboat during a security training excercise this morning when it “became detached”, according to emergency services.

The ship, launched by Royal Caribbean only four months ago, is now on an eight-day cruise around the Mediterranean.

“Four other crew members received medical treatment in the same incident”.

The vessel is reportedly on an eight-day cruise around the Mediterranean after leaving Rome, Italy, on September 8.

It has 16 decks and can carry more than 6,000 passengers and 2,400 crew.

It also boasts what it describes as seven neighbourhoods which include a cinema, promenade, sports and youth zones, an entertainment palace and spa and fitness centre.
