Harper Lee, To Kill A Mockingbird Author, Has Died
Lee was best known for her ineffable novel “To Kill a Mockingbird”-a piece of literature so deeply etched into the American cultural fabric that most schools mandate it must be taught”. “Watchman” (both the initial draft and the one published recently) followed the same characters as “Mockingbird”, in Maycomb, Alabama, but 20 years later, at which point Scout is an adult and, as it turns out, Atticus Finch has become a bigot.

“Funeral arrangements for Lee have not been set”.
News of Lee’s death has generated numerous reflections and tributes. “When I saw her just six weeks ago, she was full of life, her mind and mischievous wit as sharp as ever. She will be fondly remembered by many”.
The movie version of “To Kill a Mockingbird also became an American classic”. The author won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction the following year.
Her book put Monroeville on the world map, with many Lee fans visiting from across the globe.
“You wish somebody like that could go on forever and be this lifelong legend”, Madrie said.
In 1964, she said in a rare confidence that she was not expecting it.
The book’s towering position in the literary world was reflected in a statement by Barnes & Nobel Chief Executive Ron Boire’s statement. Multiple friends of Lee’s who visited her over the past few years told AL.com last year that her level of alertness and lucidity varied.
The manuscript was presumed lost, according to reports, but was controversially found past year in a safety deposit box by her lawyer, Tonja B. Carter, alongside the original Mockingbird manuscript.
“She had her own significant impact on our country and our culture, and on our country’s perspective on some pretty sensitive topics”, said spokesman Josh Earnest.
Then US President George W Bush awards the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Harper Lee in 2007.
“Her legacy will always be the one book”, Upchurch said.
“Harper Lee my 1st favorite author!” tweeted Oprah Winfrey. “‘The one thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience, ‘” Cook wrote. Like Scout, Lee grew up a tomboy.
But for most of her life, Lee stayed out of the spotlight.
This is not a new novel: it was written in the late 50s, but refused by the publisher had asked the young novice to review its copy.

Director of the play and the artistic director for Geva, Mark Cuddy, says they will dedicate the production to the memory of Harper Lee. At first, she dutifully promoted her work. Her mannerly, down-home approach undoubtedly smoothed the way for the flamboyant Capote. Given Lee’s advancing age, her earlier insistence that she wouldn’t write another novel and the sketchy quality of the story itself, some were not entirely convinced that she had approved its publication.
