Harper should be ’embarrassed’ to do event with Fords, Trudeau says

And Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is criticizing Conservative Leader Stephen Harper for campaigning with Rob Ford and his brother, Doug, in these last few days of the federal election campaign.

But Harper shot down criticism of having the Fords campaign for his party. “That is just completely irresponsible of the prime minister”.

Stephen Harper is playing down a planned Saturday campaign rally’s connection to Rob Ford after explosive allegations from a new book about the controversial ex-Toronto mayor were made public.

(The brothers are putting on a Conservative rally in Etobicoke on Saturday).

Speaking to reporters in Montreal, Trudeau suggested it’s the height of hypocrisy for a party with staunch anti-drug policies like the Conservatives to be involved with an admitted drug user like the former mayor.

“Rob sounds like he’s out of control”, Towhey writes in the book, “Mayor Rob Ford: Uncontrollable: How I Tried to Help the World’s Most Notorious Mayor”. He was referring to his general perception that the Fords look down on women, a senior Liberal explained later.

Ford, a father of two young children, and his brother Doug, however, would spend much of the following year in the throes of outward denial, castigating the media for spreading lies about his substance abuse and claiming he had never smoked crack.

“You know something, I’m tough on crime too and I think it’s essential”.

Doug Ford thinks Justin Trudeau has no right to criticize Rob Ford’s drug problems, because the Liberal Leader has admitted to smoking pot in the past. “I lean forward, mouth open, straining to hear what’s going on in Rob Ford’s house”.

Ford wasn’t an official guest of the Harper campaign – in fact, he sat quietly in the front row according to one account.

“Our platform is very clear and the support of that family for our party is longstanding and well known”, he said.

“I don’t care if anyone has sex with a sheep, as long as you work for the people and increase the livelihood of the people you represent”, said a man who only gave his first name as Richard.

And yesterday, Rob tweeted that Harper will appear at an event hosted by the Fords this weekend at the Toronto Congress Centre.

“The rally that you have talked about is a rally of the Conservative Party of Canada”, Harper said during a campaign stop in Trois-Rivieres Que.

“This is all about the economy, making sure that we stay on track”, Doug Ford said at the Conservative event.,”making sure that we continue to have a surplus”. He is expected to be in Mississauga, Brampton, Richmond Hill and Markham.
