Harriet Tubman has Deep New York Roots
In September, in conjunction with a reception in Washington, D.C., to welcome young Hamilton alumni to the nation’s capital, college mascot “Alex” took some time to protest the possible removal or reduction of the image of Hamilton by the Department of the Treasury on the $10 note. Tubman would be the first woman to appear on a USA currency bill.

For Tennesseans in Congress, however, there’s nothing to debate: Jackson belongs on the $20 bill. Some are already grumbling about the demotion of Andrew Jackson, the nation’s seventh president, to the back of the bill. But he thinks she should be put on other currency, such as the $2 bill.
“Harriet Tubman is a story that is just [an] essential story of American democracy about how one person, who grew up in slavery, never had the benefit to learn to read or write, could change the course of history this country because of her direct action”. Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton tweeted, “A woman, a leader, and a freedom fighter”.
Lew also announced that Alexander Hamilton, the first U.S. Treasury secretary, will remain on the front of the $10 bill.
We are also on watch for the final approval of the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park in the city of Auburn and town of Fleming in Cayuga County. Some have speculated though that the new $20 dollar bill may be released in 2020 to commemorate the one-hundreth year anniversary of the nineteenth Amendment’s ratification.
Tubman was a 19th-century abolitionist who helped some 70 families escape slavery in the USA south by way of the Underground Railroad. The back of the $10 bill will be redesigned to commemorate a 1913 march that concluded on the steps of the Treasury building, as well as Suffragette leaders.
“I think Andrew Jackson was a tremendous secretary, I mean, a tremendous president”. Others feel that Tubman’s presence on the bill could be considered insensitive and ironic given that Tubman was once bought and sold as a slave because in this way she was a victim of the capitalist system that now prints her face on its currency. When asked whether he thought the treasury’s recent decision to have Tubman, a revolutionary abolitionist, represented on the$20 was an example of “political correctness” Trump wasn’t shy about his answer.
Sofia says Tubman risked her life to save others.
Now there is no timetable on when the new bills will be released into circulation.

“Andrew Jackson was a great Tennessean and American, and I am extremely disappointed that this announcement appears to be as much an attack on his legacy as it is a celebration of Harriet Tubman”, said Republican Rep. Phil Roe.
