Harriet Tubman To Appear On New $20

“I think it’s awesome, it’s about time we had a woman on paper money and Harriet Tubman is a great place to start, said Carolyn Fort”.

The U.S. Treasury is expected to announce a design that features Harriet Tubman on the face of the new $20 bill.

Now, even better, African-American abolitionist Harriet Tubman will grace an upgraded $20 bill.

“Not only is this going to be the first African-American historical figure on US currency, but it’s a woman specifically from the era of slavery”, Myers explained.

The girl is Sofia, whose family asks her full name not be used. He and former Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson suggested putting Tubman on the $2 bill instead.

Lew said Wednesday that Tubman’s life “reflects both American values and American democracy, but also the power of an individual to make a difference in our democracy”.

The back of the $20, which now shows the White House, will be redesigned to include the White House and Jackson, whose statute stands across the street in Lafayette Park. There was some discussion about replacing the first-ever treasury secretary, Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill.

Currency is a sort of edited Hall of Fame, just like the postage stamps of old and those statues in the Capitol rotunda, and as such it’s time for Jackson to relinquish one of his pedestals.

The United States Treasury Department announced yesterday Harriet Tubman will replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. Amazing! Maybe in the future we’ll get a Native American (beside Sacagawea), an Asian-American, a Latino American and LGBT Americans on our currency too. Coincidentally, 2020 will also mark the centennial of the passage of the 19th amendment, the one that gave women the right to vote.

“I would really love to see John Adams on a piece of money”, Christie added. The current face of the $20, Andrew Jackson, will be moved to the back of the bill.

The complaint has always been that this practice leaves women and minority Americans, who have also played a profound role in the nation’s evolution, grossly underrepresented. “So I certainly wouldn’t want to be critical of it”.

Tubman set a legacy of sacrifice and hard work as she risked her life for many years to help free hundreds of enslaved men, women and children.

“Harriet Tubman? She was an extrarordinary American, who did absolutely extraordinary things for her fellow citizens, and was a great, great example of courage during a very hard time”.
