Harrison Barnes’ 3-pointer lifts Golden State Warriors over Philadelphia 76ers

He got the response he was after as Klay Thompson (34 points) and Draymond Green (20 points and 10 assists) led the Warriors to victory. Forward Carmelo Anthony topped the Knicks (23-27) with 24 points and 10 rebounds for his 13th double-double this season.

Golden State Warriors’ Harrison Barnes (40) and Stephen Curry (30) celebrate after Barnes made the go-ahead three-pointer in the last second of an NBA basketball game, Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, in Philadelphia.

He tied Tom Gola for most triple-doubles by a Warrior in a season and helped Golden State bounce back from Saturday’s sloppy showing against the 76ers in Philadelphia, where the league’s worst team almost rallied for an upset before the Warriors sealed a 108-105 win with a late three-pointer. He hit both his 3-point attempts and guarded 7-foot-3 Knicks rookie Kristaps Porzingis.

Golden State limited NY to 36.7% shooting as a team, and forced the Knicks to rely on free throws to keep pace. The loss stopped a five-game win streak for Boston, which had beaten Orlando 113-94 two nights earlier (see full recap). Golden State Warriors will need to finish 31-5 to exceeds the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls.

“We’re well aware that this is uncommon to have a group like this, to have a run like this, to be coming off a title and playing the way we are”, he said. The Sixers then went on a 20-5 run, including seven points from guard Ish Smith.

Fortunately, the road team’s defensive effort was every bit as saintly as its ball charity (turnover joke!).

“Coach Kerr got on us pretty good, ” Thompson said of the clipboard toss to start the second quarter.

“For us, to be down 24 at home and find a way to not roll over, not be all caught up in the moment and give something back to our fans, who were fantastic, is a great thing for our young team”, Brown said.

Kerr had no reason to be mad much longer.

Monta Ellis scored a season-high 32 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Indiana Pacers past the Denver Nuggets. “I was selfishly unselfish, if you know what [that] means”.

Reserve guard Brandon Jennings led the way for Detroit with 22 points and starter Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 15.

In Cleveland, LeBron James scored 29 points and Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving added 21 apiece as the Cavaliers finally took down one of the NBA’s elite teams. Curry struggled in this one scoring just 13 points on 5-17 shooting.

“It’s tough, because they have so many good players”, said Nik Stauskas, who was one of the defenders the Sixers used to cover Thompson.

Thompson had eight of those points, including a pair of three-pointers.

“I’m just trying to stay within the offense, play as intelligent as possible, play off my teammates, and stay moving the whole time”, Thompson said.
