Harrison Ford on His Return to Star Wars as Han Solo

In 17 days time, Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives in USA theaters, with J.J. Abrams directing. Therefore Abrams contacted Miranda for the cantina scene.

“He says, ‘If you need music for the cantina, I’ll write it, ‘” Abrams said.

The Harrison Ford portion of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens media tour rolled through The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night, hours after Ford appeared on Good Morning America. After that development, Abrams emailed with Miranda and asked if he’d like to be involved – and Miranda said “I’ll drop everything”. Star Wars is actually her second movie, which is quite a giant leap from a college project appearance. “Look, I love Star Wars and I don’t want people to watch and go, “Oh, there’s Simon Pegg’s face”.

J.J. Abrams had also revealed in an interview that his decision to cast a newcomer for the epic installment was deliberate.

Miranda didn’t send Abrams death threats following the revelation, but rather tweeted out confirmation of his role in the film. Presumably, the updated version, which takes place 30 years later in the “Star Wars” universe, carries a bit more of the flavor of Miranda’s music for In the Heights and Hamilton. Miranda then called Abrams the best and exclaimed he can’t wait to see the film.

Lucas also defended his controversial decision to change a key scene in the original 1977 movie in which pilot Han Solo (played by Ford) opened fire first on bounty hunter Greedo.

At the weekend, Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley revealed that director Steven Spielberg had now seen the film three times. “I’m a true fan of Star Wars, but I have always felt it was not in my stars to ever direct one”, he said.
