Even though it takes place decades before Harry Potter entered the wizarding world, fans of JK Rowling’s generation-dominating series are pretty excited for the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It also means principal photography on the sequel will have to start sometime next year.
We asked the Theory of Everything Oscar victor which Harry Potter book and film were his favorites in the saga that serve as the foundation for his spin-off prequel film. Steve Kloves is also working on the series, who had already worked with Rowling on seven Harry Potter films.
Ahead of San Diego’s Comic-Con event last month, Yates teased that a familiar character from the “Harry Potter” stories will return in “Fantastic Beasts”. This film, though it hasn’t been released as yet, already has a release date for its sequel.
Rowling has written the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts herself, a departure from the Potter films. The first film takes place in 1926, when a number of fantastical creatures escape from a briefcase in NY to threaten the very existence of the wizarding world. According to Rowling, the epic five-hour play brings Harry’s story to an end, and she has no plan to revive the character for a new series of books.
The first seven Harry Potter stories, published by Scholastic in the US between 1998 and 2007 have sold more than 160 million copies in the USA, over 450 million copies worldwide, and are distributed in more than 200 territories, translated into 79 languages, and have been turned into eight blockbuster films.
LONDON “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”, the script for a new London play telling the eighth story in the hugely popular boy-wizard series, has sold more than 680,000 print copies in the United Kingdom in three days, publisher Little, Brown Book Group said on Wednesday.
