Harry Reid blasts ‘craven’ GOP leaders in DNC speech

During his speech, which followed a tribute video, Reid took more swings at Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and longtime rival Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. I don’t believe in science. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily be our press”. “Where would I feel at home?”, and he concluded the GOP was right for him.

Many speakers at the convention assailed Mr. Trump and his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, but Mr. Reid consolidated the attacks. He added snarkily that he was happy to be in a room that “respects reason and facts”.

Calling the party “a team”, Reid talked about how Democrats fought for affordable health care, tighter regulations on Wall Street and protecting Social Security. As a team, we’ve fought for the idea that you shouldn’t get the bill for Wall Street’s bad bets. “I want you to come to Washington and try to put some accountability into what’s happening in this bailout of the big banks.’ And it totally changed my life”. And Donald Trump and Mike Pence want to gamble with your retirement benefits in the stock market. Republicans want to tear down the pillars of middle-class security. “We won’t let that happen!”

I’ve never seen anything more craven than Mitch McConnell and what he has done to our democracy.

He accused him of slandering President Obama, stoking fear of Muslims and waging war against women.

He also lectured Republicans for failing to stand against Trump’s offensive behavior, putting their party over principals.

“Republicans”, Reid declared, “you should have been careful also, because Donald Trump learned it from watching you!” “They say they believe in country first; what a joke”.

Reid went on to accuse Republicans of refusing to stand up to Trump once he launched his campaign. “But that’s not how you win in America, and that’s not how America wins in the world”. And we know winning is the work of a team.
