Hartland, other communities set for Christmas tree collection

Ornaments are being carefully packed away in boxes and many trees end up on the curbside, to be taken to the dump.

Residents can also take their trees to the Worcestershire County Councils household recycling plants – the nearest on is at Hanbury Wharf, Droitwich. Any trees larger than four feet will need to be cut into sections that are four feet or smaller.

M&S has pledged to plant one tree for every 1,000 cards recycled in stores and has set an ambitious target to collect and recycle more than six million cards across the United Kingdom, which would mean more than 6,000 new trees in the ground. Starting Saturday, the city is providing free pickup service for residents who don’t want to truck it out to the waste and recycling centre north of the city.

Residents can self-haul whole Christmas trees to one of these locations through Sunday, Jan. 10. If you are transporting your Christmas tree in a plastic bag for drop-off, please be sure to remove the tree and take the bag with you.

Any trees collected will be shredded on site for use as mulch on public gardens.

Trees should be stripped of tinsel and other decorations.

The trees will NOT be picked up by the refuse or recycling trucks but will be collected by a separate vehicle.

Should you decide to dispose of your own tree, the district advises to bring it to the compost area at the transfer station.
