Harvey Lake blue-green algae presents health risk – New Brunswick
(Wampsville, New York – July 13, 2015) Madison County Health Department Environmental Health Director, Geoffrey Snyder, announced today that following an assessment of the swim areas and tests of the water quality, swimming at Lakeland Park and Willow Bank Yacht Club on Cazenovia Lake is permitted to resume.

It is unclear when the swim beaches will reopen.
Two beaches at Smithville Lake are closed due to a blue-green algae outbreak.
The Health Department says young children and those with skin conditions may be particularly vulnerable to the effects, while blue-green algae can be fatal to pets and livestock.
Lora Vacca, operations project manager for the Corps, said high runoff from recent rains have led to the blue-green algae growth.

People are advised to avoid swimming, water-skiing or any other contact with the water in areas of the lake where the water is discolored or where surface scum is present. Symptoms of exposure include nausea, vomiting, breathing problems, even seizures.
