Harvey open to long-term extension with Mets

This doesn’t sound like an affirmation that Harvey wants to talk about an extension, but rather a slight departure from the notion that Harvey testing the open market was inevitable.

Earlier this week, Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom told reporters he would be open to considering a long-term extension and pushing back his impending free agency.

The one roadblock to an extension may be the presence of Scott Boras as Harvey’s agent, as Carig noted, as Boras has a history of taking his clients to free agency and maximizing their earnings rather than having them sign contract extensions.

“I’ve never shied away from it, I never said I wouldn’t consider it”, Harvey said, via Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News. Harvey went 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA in 216 innings last season, his first back from Tommy John surgery, and figures to be the Mets’ opening-day starter.

Pitchers typically perform better in their second year back from Tommy John surgery compared with their first season back. “I haven’t heard anything about that”.

Harvey said he was excited about the start of the new season.

Closer Jeurys Familia relieved, and the Royals tied the score when Mike Moustakas advanced Hosmer with a groundout, and Salvador Perez hit a grounder to third; Hosmer broke for home as David Wright threw to first and slid in headfirst ahead of Lucas Duda’s wayward throw.

Terry Collins stopped by to watch and said: “Damn, we have a lot of guys here”.
