Harvey’s symptoms might be season-ending

Matt Harvey has chosen to have season-ending surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome, his agent, Scott Boras, told multiple reporters.

But there are other options, such as using nerve blockers, which could delay the surgery to after the season, but general manager Sandy Alderson said that it may not be the best option.

“If he has the surgery, then we’re talking about 2017”, Alderson said.

Matt Harvey has made a decision to undergo surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome, a shoulder condition we learned about yesterday and for which the Mets placed Harvey on the disabled list on Wednesday.

Harvey had a 4-10 record in 17 starts this season, while posting a 4.86 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and just 76 strikeouts in 92.2 innings. Harvey allowed 11 hits in his last start.

Thoracic outlet syndrome creates pressure on blood vessels and cells in the shoulder.

“I don’t want it to sound like woe is me – but woe is us”, Collins said.

If it is, Harvey would miss the rest of the 2016 season.

The Mets placed Harvey on the disabled list on Wednesday citing discomfort in his right shoulder.

Harvey was working on a shutout in Game 5 of the World Series against Kansas City when he pushed to pitch the ninth inning and talked manager Terry Collins into it.

Verrett, 26, will start in place of Harvey on Saturday against the Washington Nationals, with an opportunity to earn a permanent spot in the rotation.

“It’s unclear how effective that would be or for how long”, Alderson said.

NEW YORK (AP) – Matt Harvey’s season is over and he’s “relieved” to have a reason for why it was so disgusting.

“We wanted to have this thing resolved and him throwing and ready for spring training”. What will he be like when he does come back? Syndergaard and Matz are hopeful to make it through the season without surgery; Wheeler was set to be back with the team around this time but several setbacks have delayed his return.
