Harvick looks to continue Phoenix dominance

The No. 4 Chevrolet driver boasts three wins and ranks first in the NSCS in top fives (21), top 10s (26), driver rating (118.1), average running position (7.4), percentage of laps led (21.2) and percentage of fastest laps run (34.5). “We’ll see how the weekend plays out, but I’m definitely looking forward to getting to Phoenix because it is one of my favorite tracks on the schedule”.

The NASCAR season is winding down, as drivers prepare for the last race of the Eliminator Round this weekend in Phoenix.

The NASCAR Chase Final Four will be set on Sunday at Phoenix and here are a few drivers and storylines to keep an eye on…

Kyle Busch can advance by finishing third (or lower if he earns bonus points for leading laps), regardless of what the others do.

Local radar shows a band of rain moving through the area which will affect the amount of rubber on the track, similar to what drivers experienced last Sunday at Texas with showers the night before.

Of the group, it’s Gordon with the best average finish; he and Edwards each own two career wins. Richard Petty won seven straight races at Richmond global Raceway, while Darrell Waltrip compiled win streaks of seven at Bristol Motor Speedway and five at North Wilkesboro. Look for him to be aggressive and make the moves he needs to to potentially win. Johnson had already been eliminated from the playoffs, and in blocking Keselowski’s path to Homestead, he potentially helped Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon by keeping a strong contender from the final four. If he can make it five in a row, he’s through to next week’s Chase championship round at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

If Harvick wins Sunday, he would extend his track record to eight overall Cup victories.

Truck series leader Erik Jones was third, and Daniel Suarez was fourth to give Gibbs three of the top four spots. “If you can’t be in it, you may as well go out there and spoil it”.

(Harvick) “I think if you’re going to have to go one place in that scenario…” That is Joey Logano’s only hope. Logano would also have to beat his teammate, Brad Keselowski, who is in the same hole as far as continuing in the Chase. In 2014 Logano finished 4th after qualifying 2nd in the spring race and finished 6th after qualifying 4th in the fall race. Logano has never won at Phoenix, and his numbers aren’t great, but he has risen to the occasion often this year and has more wins than anyone in 2015. Only Truex Jr. has not to win at Phoenix.
