Haryana Police stack up cases against comic Kiku Sharda

The main Opposition Congress on Thursday criticised the arrest of television actor Kiku Sharda by the Haryana police over alleged mockery of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, saying that the entire incident portrayed India as a “tin pot republic”. Voicing his strong resentment over the arrest of Kiku, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, posting the picture of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, said, “See this picture!” The religious groups also came under fire when Kiku Sharda was arrested twice even after getting bail the 1st time as he was charged on similar grounds again. Ram Rahim then tweeted: Mr Sharda was released on bail, but was detained again.

He said that his aim was only to entertain the public and not to hurt the religious feeling and sentiments of any person.

Archana Puran Singh who has judged comedy shows over the years insists that the arrest is an “extreme, knee-jerk reaction”.

No religious sentiments should be hurt by in this case. As per the FIR, the actors were shown dressed as “his holiness and dancing, consuming liquor and seeking donation”. Singhvi said the Haryana Police should be “ashamed” of carrying out the arrest. I am told what to do, I am given a script and a get up and I act accordingly. “The police will act as per law”, Khattar said here. He had been shooting for over 10 hours when the Haryana Police landed up on the sets, picked up Kiku and took him to Aarey Police Station. I don’t think there was any need to arrest him (Kiku).

Sikh organisations had accused Gurmeet Ram Rahim of wearing an attire in an advertisement, resembling 10th Sikh guru Gobind Singh.
