Hassan Whiteside Elects to Stay with the Miami Heat

Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat have enjoyed a hugely successful partnership that has helped produce three National Basketball Association championships and countless other memorable moments, but now, as unthinkable as it may have been heading into the summer, the star shooting guard could soon be looking to sign a new contract with a different team.

Now 34 years old, Wade will undoubtedly be looking to capitalize on the league’s rapidly rising salary cap, which is expected to clock in around $94 million, according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania.

Wade is a free agent after completing a one-year, $20 million contract with the Heat last season.

This is the second straight year Wade has threatened to leave, and last year he ended back up with the Heat after a brief, peaceful showdown.

Call it insulting and a slap in the face, but I don’t know how you can fathom Dwyane Wade in another jersey at the start of next season. This is one to keep an eye on.

Wade’s re-signing with the Heat was deemed a foregone conclusion until an ESPN report stated earlier this week his talks with Miami stalled.

“He’s our No. 1 priority, period”, Riley said after of Whiteside, who averaged 14.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and 3.7 blocks during the 2015-16 regular season. Some of the prioritizes include trying to sign superstar Kevin Durant, retaining Hassan Whiteside and re-signing Dwyane Wade.

The other teams on that list are able to offer Crawford more money, which could end up being an issue for the Heat. It may happen, as the shooting guard has failed to reach an agreement with the Heat, the team he had played for every season since he was drafted in 2003.

If the team won’t pay him, we the fans will! 7 blocks last season at an unbelievable PER of 25.69.

Heat president Pat Riley had indicated just how important re-signing Whiteside was after the team lost to the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
