A hatchet-waving man led police on a 20-mile chase through several MA towns before eventually being boxed in by state and local police cruisers, officials said.

It all began when the driver, later identified as 50-year-old Randall Harrison, was seen hitting his own vehicle with a hatchet.
Procopio said that after the suspect’s vehicle came to a stop, it was converged upon by officers, troopers and the Environmental Police officer, who removed the Harrison from the vehicle at gunpoint.
Police have not said how that chase ended or how it began. He backed up but bounced off two cruisers and then another vehicle as the officers pinned the SUV against the curb.
During the pursuit the suspect was waving the hatchet and a knife out the window.
State police said more details of the incident will be released soon.
The chase reached speeds of 60 miles per hour and a State Police helicopter followed Harrison as the chase ended in New Bedford, where officers took him into custody.
Harrison will be charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, two counts of assault with a risky weapon, and other charges.
Marion Chief Lincoln Miller did say one of his officers attempting to deploy stop sticks had a close encounter with the Blazer on I-195.
Harrison was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The TV station mentioned that Harrison had a long list of run-ins with the police, and has been charged with resisting arrest in the past. After he was loaded into a state police vehicle, troopers appeared to inspect his SUV and stand guard around it. Rochester Police have filed an immediate threat request with the registry to have his license suspended immediately.
