Hatred of Hillary Clinton the unifying thread at Donald Trump confab

The past several days of the Republican National Convention have been peppered with calls for additional investigations into her e-mail scandal and to prosecute her for Benghazi.

Christie hasn’t gone that far – he’s only said publicly that Clinton should be convicted. Just six focused primarily on singing Trump’s praises, including addresses delivered by his son Donald Jr and daughter Tiffany.

Christie was widely expected to be among the leading contenders for the Republican nomination when he first kicked off his presidential campaign more than a year ago.

Christie cited the civil war in Libya, Syria and other foreign policy matters, including the controversial Iran nuclear treaty, which he described as the “worst nuclear arms deal in history”. “Hillary Clinton should be put in a firing line and shot for treason”, said Baldasaro.

Hope Hicks, a spokeswoman for Trump, said in a statement reported by the Post that, “Mr. Trump and the campaign do not agree” that Clinton should be executed.

Baldasaro laughed off reports the Secret Service is looking into his comments, saying it was because they probably wanted a photograph with him.

On the streets of Cleveland, demeaning buttons for sale say “Life’s a Bitch – Don’t Elect One” and “Trump vs”.

Many Wisconsin Republican delegates said they had no problem with going so hard after Clinton.

A Marquette University Law School poll released earlier this month showed that 53 percent of women favored Clinton compared with 29 percent for Trump.

Still, the criticism has triggered a backlash from some Republicans who say it’s beyond the pale.

Baldasaro, who serves as an informal adviser to Trump on veterans issues, has been one of Trump’s most prominent supporters on the campaign trail, frequently introducing the candidate at events in New Hampshire.

Talk radio host Bill Pickle expressed frustration at “name calling and childish behavior” among some speakers.

The “crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon, and I mean very soon, come to an end”, he said.
