It seems like only last year that I shared or should I say scared some Halloween safety tips into parents and while that can certainly be helpful, I thought this year I’d unmask a few safety tips by talking directly with children so that their Halloween is far from frightening when it comes to staying safe. Make sure your costumes don’t drag on the ground.
When choosing or making a costume, avoid billowing or long trailing fabric and make sure it is flame retardant.
Give your children flashlights or glow sticks so they can see where they are walking.
Flammable decorations: Dried flowers, cornstalks and crepe paper are highly flammable. If you use a real candle, use extreme caution. When lighting candles inside jack-o-lanterns, use long fireplace-style matches or a utility lighter.
Remember, your jack-o-lantern and any other candles or electrical decorations can be a fire hazard.
Walk on the left side of the road, facing traffic if there are no sidewalks.
Watch for children darting out from between parked cars.
