Hawaiian islands brace for possible Hurricane Lester impact
The storm has moved to the south of Hawaii’s Big Island. News outlets reported that high school football games in many areas will be played Thursday night because Hermine was expected to bring heavy rains to the state Friday.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Lester continues to track toward Hawaii.
“So, really grateful for this respite today”.
CPHC said that hurricane conditions are possible over Hawaii and Maui counties Saturday, Sept. 3.
Madeline was downgraded to a tropical storm on Wednesday.
While Madeline turned to the south as it approached the islands earlier this week, Lester is expected to turn to the north on its approach during the holiday weekend.
On the Big Island, several roads and a bridge that were closed because of flooding reopened, and county services were resuming Thursday.
According to the calculations of specialists, the islands which are prone to be hit this weekend by the hurricane are Hawaii, Maui Oahu, Molokai, and Lanai.
Madeline was downgraded Wednesday though it brought periods of intense rainfall.
This graphic shows the projected path and intensity of Hurricane Lester as of 11 a.m. But he says it’s likely to remain a hurricane as it passes the islands over the weekend.
On the Big Island, waves crashed into a seawall that surrounds Liliuokalani Gardens Park at Hilo Bay.
Meteorologists say that the trajectory of the storm includes the northern parts of the islands, which wouldn’t cause much damage for them.
Time lapse video of the hurricanes shows the eye of each storm amid swirling white clouds as the International Space Station passed more than 257 miles above the Earth. Another storm, Hurricane Lester, stronger than Madeline with maximum sustained winds of 130 miles an hour, is moving into the central Pacific Ocean north of Hawaii.
The storm didn’t keep President Obama from visiting Honolulu Thursday on his way to Midway Atoll.
The warning covers an area that extends from Marineland, Florida, northward to the South Santee River in SC.

Gov. David Ige has issued an emergency proclamation for both Madeline and Lester, allowing the state to quickly spend money. Depending on when the storm comes ashore, a “life-threatening inundation” of up to 8 feet may hit from Ochlockonee River, FL, to Keaton Beach, FL, with lower surges expected from Destin to Bonita Beach on the Florida Gulf Coast and from the Florida-Georgia line to Cape Fear, NC, along the Atlantic.
