What’s obvious the past two games is that the Celtics really miss Marcus Smart.

Avery Bradley had 15 of his 25 points in the first half for Boston, which has dropped three of four. He is an eight-time NBA All-Star (1992, 1995-98, 2000-02), four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year (1995, 1997, 1998, 2001), and led the NBA league in blocked shots from 1994-98. He had a stretch in which he scored 10 straight Hawks points to tie the game at 38-38. He said it was just a tweak and that he hoped after a day off he would be ready to play against Sacramento on Friday.

“I think we need to reconnect as a group”, Stevens said. “I know it’s a part of my job description to always be ready and hopefully get in the game and change the rhythm, bring some positive energy off the bench”.

And as another question was being lobbed Stevens’ way, he blurted out, “The best way that we will be able to recognize it is if we guarded somebody for once”.

Celtics: Rookie G R.J. Hunter, who starred one mile down the street at Georgia State, scored a career-high 12 points in his Atlanta pro debut….

The Hawks shooting percentage (31 of 82), including 25 percent (8 of 32) from 3-point range.

Wednesday’s game was never that one-sided. Hawks G Kyle Korver made three 3-pointers Wednesday, leaving him two shy of tying Peja Stojakovic for 10th in NBA/ABA history with 1,760. The questionable shots were still there, the decision making was not ideal, but LaVine could have lost the Wolves this game, and did not.

Andrew Wiggins scored 15 points on 5-for-17 shooting for the Wolves (7-8), who won their second home game in a row after an 0-6 start at Target Center. “I think it’s usually an injury that’s associated with other areas of your knee getting hurt, so we feel fortunate it is what it is and that it’s not a long-term thing”.

The festivities then turned to more traditional fare, including a team-produced video package highlighting Mutombo’s myriad contributions on and off the court and effusive remarks from several venerable admirers.

At times the game resembled a training exercise for the Warriors as they sprinted into a 30-11 first quarter lead against their outclassed opponents, effectively scoring at will. The Celtics may also look to tone down the volume of their three pointers.
