Hayes leads Bruins to 6-2 win over Avalanche

Jonas Gustavsson also got in his first game in a Bruins uniform last night, and he did not disappoint.

Patrick Roy was noticeably angry after the game. “We didn’t compete like we should”.

Randell, a bruising right wing who had 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points and 120 penalty minutes in Providence last season, would figure to skate on Boston’s fourth line with Zac Rinaldo and Joonas Kemppainen. We’ll see how that bodes for him moving forward for a hockey club that could definitely use his energy this season. It was chaos in our own zone.

“You know that sooner or later you’re going to get a chance”, Gustavsson said, “so no matter what, you try to stay focused.”

“It’s unacceptable. We can’t play like this”. The Bruins hope that feeling rides with them to the desert when they face the Coyotes, who gamely rallied from a three-goal deficit before dropping a 4-3 decision to Minnesota on Thursday. It started with the 6-foot-6 Hayes crashing the net to cash in on a Zdeno Chara rebound in the first period, and then continued as he picked off a pair of passes in the second period – one at the blue line and another right off the stick of Carl Soderberg – that he helped turned into scores for his linemates. Varlamov was hung out to dry at times, but after his three starts, his save percentage is a disgusting.

“That was a good one for me, just to get out of the way”, Hayes said of his goal.

“I feel so sorry”. “I didn’t play well today”.

“I felt pretty good”, he said. “Just playing a north-south game and trying to execute plays, and finally, the execution was there”.

The upcoming stretch will provide a stern test of whether the Avs got the message after a shaky start a year ago put them in a hole they never completely climbed out of. Colorado responded by getting two points out of a game versus Dallas, but the Avalanche suffered a crushing 6-2 loss against the Bruins last night. A win in Anaheim on Friday would go a long way towards putting this all behind the Avalanche. The Arizona Coyotes are averaging 3.3 goals per game and are scoring on 7.7 percent of their power plays. “We have to make this a tough place to play…” “You’ve got to be a pro, every day”, he said before the B’s hit the road. The Bruins need a solid night between the pipes and their backup gave it to them.

Boston Bruins are on fire this period as Ryan Spooner found the net at 15:31 with an assist from Jimmy Hayes making the score 5-0. Colorado had 22 shots in the game.

Boston Bruins found the net again early in the 2nd period with a goal by Tyler Randell at the 3:46 mark and had a tip in assist from Adam McQuaid. Then after a Tyson Barrie giveaway, Boston’s Chris Kelly scored off the odd-man rush to make it 4-0 at 9:30.

The success has come primarily on a first unit that features Patrice Bergeron, Loui Eriksson, and Ryan Spooner up front, with David Krejci and Torey Krug on the backend. David Krejci (3-3-6) has scored at least one point in all four games to date.
