EW has confirmed that Agent Carter star Hayley Atwell has been cast as the lead in Conviction, an upcoming ABC pilot.

Jessica Jones’ Liz Friedman penned the script, will direct and exec produce alongside the Mark Gordon Co.’s Gordon and Nicholas Pepper.

The show will see Atwell practicing her American accent, playing the wayward, privileged daughter of a former U.S. President who finds herself blackmailed into taking a job at an organization in Los Angeles called the “Conviction Integrity Unit”. Should that be the case, at least fans will have the option to follow Hayley Atwell to her newest endeavor. Is the series worth saving, or is Atwell abandoning ship as well? She, along with her team of lawyers, investigators and forensic experts, work together to examine cases where there’s credible suspicion that the wrong person may have been convicted of a crime.

According to Deadline, ABC has not yet chose to bury Agent Carter after its second season.

If Conviction goes to series and Agent Carter is renewed for a third season, Atwell’s schedule will be adjusted so she can do both roles. Moreover, Agent Carter hasn’t exactly been killing it in the ratings with Season 2 now averaging at 0.86 in the 18-48 demo with 2.97 million viewers.
