A massive four-alarm fire at a business in west Houston is sending flames and heavy black smoke into the air. He said investigators thought one of the products was a petroleum-based solvent.

“At this time, we have no reason to believe that there’s been a direct threat to any homes and there’s been no reported injuries”.

“The area of Spring Branch Creek and surrounding ditches and culverts should be avoided until authorities complete testing and deem them safe”, the HFD said Thursday afternoon.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Multiple witnesses tell KHOU 11 News the fire started behind nearby homes, including one that was being used as an auto fix shop.

Almost 200 firefighters battled the fire at its height, but by Thursday afternoon, the blaze was under control and the focus was on extinguishing hot spots.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to an industrial area in the western part of the city on Thursday morning, as the fire burned several structures.

Multiple explosions have been seen in the fire, which broke out just before 10 a.m. and quickly intensified.
