HBO Now launches on Xbox One

Last night while asking HBO’s press relations team to look the other way and slip us Obama’s copy of the Game of Thrones season six premiere, we also asked whether HBO Now would ever launch on a game console. Yes, the HBO Now app has been launched on the Xbox One. The network’s other streaming option, HBO GO, arrived on Xbox in 2014 for those with a subscription via a pay TV provider.

HBO Now is also available for Android, iOS, Apple TV, Amazon FireTV, Fire Tablets, Chromecast, and Roku devices.

The move was a welcomed one on HBO’s part, and no doubt was encouraged by the massive number of Game of Thrones episodes that were being pirated.

HBO first launched its standalone subscription service a year ago in partnership with Apple. Don’t get confused, HBO Now is different from HBO Go, because it doesn’t require a cable subscription but in fact, it will cost 15 dollars a month. “Xbox has proven to be a favorite platform for HBO audiences to stream their beloved HBO shows and movies and we are excited about this next big step in our partnership”.

Considering how long it took for the HBO Now app to come to any of the home consoles, there’s really no telling when it will appear on PlayStation 4. Until then, Xbox One remains the first console to give access to HBO Now, so if you are a Xbox One user be sure to check out each month’s provided content.
