On Wednesday Smith’s family and friends gathered for a funeral mass at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Farmers Branch, where he was a parishioner.
During his speech at the memorial on Tuesday, President Obama reminded Americans that Smith was the father of two girls and that he loved to play softball with them.
Hundreds of mourners on Wednesday attended the funerals for three officers slain in last week’s shooting in Dallas.
Funerals for the two other officers killed, Michael Krol and Patrick Zamarripa will happen later in the week.
That service will be followed by a private burial.
The Dallas massacre, during an otherwise peaceful “Black Lives Matter” protest, which killed 5 police officers and injured 11 people, is the deadliest attack on United States law enforcement since the terrorist attacks on Sep. Lorne Ahrens before the funeral services in Plano, Texas on Wednesday.

DART Officer Brent Thompson, 43, was a father and had been married for two weeks to a fellow DART officer when he was killed. Law enforcement officers and their communities must work against those who seek to divide.
Thompson and four Dallas officers were fatally shot during a protest against the police killings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota.
Tyler police officers were among thousands who attended funerals Wednesday for Dallas Area Rapid Transit Officer Brent Thompson and Dallas PD Sr.
After the ceremony, hundreds lined the road to watch as a procession traveled from Plano to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery in Dallas, WFAA reports.
Sgt. Smith will receive another service on Thursday, in the church where he worked as a security guard.

Unlike yesterday’s joint memorial service, the funerals were individual and took place in three different churches.
