The Ryan Lochte “robbing” scandal has been the talk of the Olympics for the majority of the second week of the 31st Olympiad.
In his detailed account, Bentz said Lochte stood up and got into a “heated verbal exchange” with the guards.
Lochte said on social media he should have been more “careful and candid” about his description of what happened after a night of partying with teammates James Feigen, Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger. They pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground-they got down on the ground. Now when I saw the interview and heard the story I was like he is awfully calm for a guy that a gun to his head.
Chief of Civil Police Fernando Veloso said that the men were inebriated broke down the door of a bathroom, a soap dispenser and a mirror.
Bentz said a translator stepped in to mediate, and the swimmers forked over a $20 bill and 100 Reals to pay for the damage. “We will further review the matter, and any potential consequences for the athletes, when we return to the United States”.
The Olympic swimmer has been embroiled in controversy after claiming to have been robbed at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro, and he’ll now sit down for an interview with NBC’s Matt Lauer to talk about the incident. Lochte was indicted on Thursday, at the same time that two of the other swimmers involved were detained in Brazil.

The charge does not carry any prison time, Veloso said, but the pair could face fines or community service.
