When someone from the DC-loving NY crowd apparently yelled an anti-Marvel insult, Ayer repeated it. “F*ck Marvel”, Ayer said, as you can see from the cellphone video, naturally enough.

“You know, all these movies are about defeating the evil alien robot from fucking Planet X, before it destroys the world with its ticking clock”. It really isn’t. What Suicide Squad winds up being is a comic book movie that is ultimately enjoyable, but not at all a home run.

Here are the key goals Suicide Squad hopes to pull off come this weekend, besides merely being a good movie. The movie is not about what is going on but what is going on inside the minds of characters. So, if you weren’t already excited for the release this week, Leto is giving you a lot more to be excited about.

“The movie majorly focused on characters rather than plot and villain”.

And despite all the fab-looking trailers, it turns out that Suicide Squad falls into the same trap and is one monumental misfire.

This isn’t the first time Ayer has taken a public swipe at Marvel. It is trying to be a few things at once, and it never totally settles into anything completely.

Even Jai Courtney is much better than we are accustomed to him being. Putting a group of super-colorful criminal baddies together with writer-director David Ayer, a gritty, world-class storyteller who specializes in distilling realism from fiction, puts the venerable comics company in a position to, finally, accomplish its goal. Though she said that in a amusing way and didn’t mean a bit of what she said, we suppose.
