Head of USOC calls Boston bid a mistake

U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame honoree Janet Evans has joined the effort to bring the 2024 Olympics to Los Angeles and will serve as vice chair of the city’s bidding committee, officials announced Thursday.
The Hungarian Olympic Committee says there are no plans for a referendum on Budapest’s bid for the 2024 Summer Games.
This is one of the more candid remarks a USOC executive has made in any capacity since the Boston 2024 bid was pulled in late July.
The Fullerton native and El Dorado High graduate will head the LA 2024 athletes’ commission working with other Olympians and Paralympians to gather their input into Los Angeles bid to host a third Olympic Games.
Chairman Larry Probst said the USOC moved forward after the Boston bid tanked because it was encouraged by global colleagues who he portrayed as “surprised and disappointed (but) not discouraged”.
Evans’ appointment is the latest step taken by LA 2024 in its commitment to providing the optimum environment for athletes.
