Head of VFW says Gold Star family deserves apology from Trump
“The notion that he would attack a Gold Star family that had made such extraordinary sacrifices on behalf of our country”, he said.

“So whether it is Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, I don’t believe they have lost a child”, she said.
The tombstone of US Army Capt. Humayun S.M. Khan is seen in Section 60 at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., Monday, Aug. 1, 2016.
I’m SO glad that the VFW publicly took a stand here for Gold Star families and against those who would denigrate their sacrifice for political ends. “She had nothing to say, she probably – maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say”.
“He is unfit to serve our party and can not lead this country”, Hanna wrote in an op-ed for Syracuse.com.
Reuters first reported on the Trump campaign’s efforts to get Republicans in Congress to come to the billionaire nominee’s defense. Making it worse is the fact that just as l’affaire Khan reached hurricane status, Trump affirmed and denied that he was a friend and a fan boy of Putin, that he had no interest at all in the future of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, and no knowledge of the fact that the Soviet Union was now in Ukraine at all.
The Khans are what is known in the United States as a “Gold Star Family”, meaning they have lost an immediate relative in a military action.
“Your recent comments regarding the Khan family were repugnant, and personally offensive to us”, the letter said.
Many times Gold Star families can feel isolated because they no longer share that connection to the military community.
Instead, Trump has played right into the hands of the Democrats, and now finds his work in courting the veterans vote at risk thanks to a one-day story that Trump has blown up into a major campaign narrative due to his own vanity.
Trump compelled the leader of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) to issue a statement rebuking the nominee for his war of words with the Khan family, and it’s not a healthy situation, especially with extended military – a voting bloc of roughly 30 million people who historically vote Republican.
“No one, no one has given more for our freedom and our security than our Gold Star families”, the president said at the Disabled American Veterans convention in Atlanta.
“McCain added: “While our party has bestowed upon him the nomination, it is not accompanied by unfettered license to defame those who are the best among us”.
Speaking to NBC’s TODAY on Monday, Khan said he was also grateful for an “outpouring” of support he had received in the wake of his speech.
Ami Neiberger-Miller, of Purcellville, Virginia, knows the Khans because her brother is buried near their son at Arlington National Cemetery. “We experience the goodness of this country every day”. Army Spc. Christopher Neiberger was killed in Iraq in 2007.
“Captain Humayun Khan is a true American hero who paid the ultimate price for the country he loved”. Trump’s response has sparked outrage. “Whoever saw me felt me in their heart”. “And I controlled myself at that time, so it is very hard”, she said. If one died the star would be changed to gold.
The Koprinces became a Gold Star family and they say it’s painful to hear families, just like them, are being discussed in the election.

On Sunday, Khan told “Meet the Press” that “we have a candidate without a moral compass, without empathy for its citizens”.
