Health buffs, this one’s for you: New Apple watch puts fitness first
The Verge notes that Apple’s example is going to be one that the rest of the giant tech brands are going to remember. So if you’re listening to audio on your Mac and decide to switch it up and listen to audio from your iPhone while you take a walk outside, you can switch over without any problem at all. “We are seeing a shift in the headphone market towards more Bluetooth sales, and as we saw [on September 7], Apple is providing both an adapter and a pair of Lightning connector headphones in the box”. Said company GM Steve Malony, “We’re excited to offer the Lightning Audio + Charge RockStar to our customers, extending our family of RockStar multi-port products and creating an easy way for people to charge and listen on the go”. But if you’re charging your phone, you can’t use the adapter.

One adapter plugged into the phone, another adapter plugged into the original adapter and the headphones plugged into the second adapter that’s plugged into the adapter plugged into the iPhone 7. Lightning Audio + Charge RockStar adapter (what a mouthful) splits the iPhone 7’s single Lightning port into two.

Apple spent a good chunk of the iPhone keynote talking about its “courageous” decision to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack from its new phone. So these new wireless headphones, which pair over Bluetooth, are presented as the ideal solution to overcome that inconveniently dropped port. That can be either Lightning-connector headphones or the Lightning to 3.5mm adapter. (Apple, likely anticipating the push back, is selling replacement dongles for $9.) Belkin says the adapter supports 48 kHz, 24-bit audio output, as well as remote control and mic support for Apple-made headphones. The $40 (£30, €35) dongle has been created by Belkin and is now the only viable solution to the latest Apple-induced headache. If you want the bigger iPhone 7 Plus, it costs $769 with 32 GB of storage, $869 with 128 GB, and $969 with 256 GB.
