“If we eliminate the mosquito, we can reduce the transmission of the Zika virus as well”.
Women who are pregnant or trying to get pregnant face serious risks from Zika.
Because Zika virus has been found in semen, the CDC also advises the male sexual partners of women of child-bearing age to protect themselves from mosquitoes while traveling. The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). Researchers soon linked this mysterious development to an outbreak of Zika, a virus spread by mosquitoes.
While it has not been conclusively proven that Zika in pregnant women leads to their babies being born with microcephaly, there have been thousands of cases in Brazil and scientists have pointed to the probable link.
There have been 18 imported cases of Zika virus in Queensland state to date so far in 2016.
Tropical disease expert Dr. Peter Hotez has been warning for months that poor neighborhoods on the Gulf Coast are similar to poor neighborhoods in Brazil, the epicenter of the Zika pandemic.

A portion of the funds will be used to develop a vaccine for Zika.
The move is after the Congress hasn’t acted on the White House’s request for emergency funding to prepare in case the mosquito-borne disease emerges in the United States.

The Obama Administration announced that it will redirect $589 million in preparation to fight the Zika virus, the dreaded virus that has been linked to microcephaly and other complications in Latin American and the Caribbean.
Nebraskaland Aviation in Holdrege is offering to treat people’s homes to eliminate the threat by identifying mosquito breeding sites and using a fogging treatment.
Officials don’t expect Zika to be a big problem, though, in the US for a number of reasons, including the widespread use of air conditioning and screens.

To combat the possible spread of Zika, health officials are increasing their public outreach efforts and encouraging people to make their property and their community as unfriendly toward mosquitoes as possible.
